The Christian home prayer altar servers as central organized place to say night prayers, morning prayers, Advent prayers and, when you cannot get to church, Sunday prayers as well. It is a place to put pictures of saints you want to imitate and and friends and family that need prayers. Like John Paul II and his father who used
their home altar, it’s a place to go when life asks more than we have to give. Its presence in our home is a testament that we are struggling towards that Divine will in our lives. It helps practically in our domestic lives to have this one place to put our Rosaries, Missals and devotionals and in establishing a prayer routine, especially with children. It is designed and built by a Catholic parent, who used one in his home for the last twenty years. It is made to last. It is made to be an heirloom. I built it with hardy dovetail and glue, there are no nails. It is finished with linseed oil ( also know as flaxseed oil in many things we eat) and wax. This is an old traditional way of finishing furniture. It won’t scratch like polyurethane or lacquer, and there is no limit to how much wax one applies.
